Successful Design of Barcaldine Recreation Park
Following the success of the Moree Water Park, it wasn’t long before word got around! Barcaldine Regional Council were the next local government eager to provide their town and the wider community with a recreational park of their own.
SMK Consultants were contracted to undertake the design of the proposed recreation water park, with the aim of providing a facility that catered to a wide range of recreational activities, including fishing, skiing and walking tracks.
With the proposed location specified by Council, the first concern was providing a design that would match the desired scope and still fit within the 40ha development area. After a bit of trial and error and some community consultation, a proposal was put to Barcaldine Council with the final design, consisting of two 1100m water ski lanes with a central dividing bank to mitigate wave action, a staggered batter with hollows for a fish nursery, a beached swimming area and walking tracks around the park.
Following a tender process and 2 months of construction, the park is now ready to be filled, just in time for summer!
Below are pictures supplied to us showing the final constructed recreation park, a water park that the locals and tourists of Barcaldine can enjoy for years to come!
